Name: Chunky Billiard Grade/Finish: Grade 2 Sandblast Notes: Like the LB Collector I just posted, this was done as a model pipe for a group pipe project - I wanted a 3D finished pipe to offer as an option. But the two couldn't be more different in style! Where LB Collector #46 is curved and thin and long, this was an attempt to "plump" the traditional straight biliard shape for thicker walls and a chunkier, more rugged overall design. The lower two photos were taken in natural light rather than studio spotlight, and it's interesting how much redder they appear. Indoors, the pipe's color is much more similar to the upper photos - brick red, with black recesses for a two-toned effect. My French friends are going to get a laugh out of the fact that the pipe's picture filename is "rosbif"... Positives: Thicker walls than the usual billiard bowl, with weightier proportions all around. It's pretty much the ideal smoking machine, with durable ruggedness coupled with the normal Talbert briar traits (open, easy draw, passes cleaner easily). The stem is handcut from black German ebonite rod. I really, really waffled on whether to grade this a 2 or a 3, and with ring grain like it has, it probably should have been a 3. But in the end, I took the usual solution and gave it the lower grade since there was even a little debate. This way it will be more affordable AND still offer some lucky buyer a very nicely grain blast. Negatives: Thicker walls and chunky build mean it's unavoidably heavier than a similar normal-proportioned billiard.
